Claro permitted to offer pay-TV in Uruguay

15 Dec 2017

Claro Uruguay has been permitted to offer pay-TV services, following a final decision in favour of the operator by the Court of Civil Appeals, reports local newspaper El Pais. The court has ruled that the DTH licence initially granted to the America Movil-owned company to provide pay-TV back in October 2008 is valid, despite moves by the government to declare it void. Claro appealed the decision to annul its licence with the Court of Administrative Disputes in 2013, which in turn ruled that the annulment went against Claro’s rights and damaged competition in the market. In December 2014 the firm was notified by the Court of Administrative Disputes that the act that had revoked the DTH licence had been provisionally suspended, pending final resolution of the appeal.
