South Africa’s Cybersmart plans to increase the speed of its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service from 400Mbps to 500Mbps in 2018, MyBroadband writes. Cybersmart CTO Laurie Fialkov explained that previously the company had limited its LightSpeed fibre service to 400Mbps because it is the maximum speed most users get when performing an online speed test. The firm has, however, said the upgrade will only happen when it is certain the majority of its clients can perform speed tests which register downlink rates of 500Mbps.
