Verizon picks Ericsson for 5G rollout

12 Dec 2017

Verizon Communications has selected Ericsson to provide networking equipment for its commercial 5G fixed-wireless launch. As per the terms of the contract, a pre-standard 5G commercial radio network and a 5G core network will be deployed in selected markets in the second half of 2018. To date, the two companies have conducted fixed-wireless 5G trials using mmWave spectrum in multiple cities and residential neighbourhoods with different geographies and housing densities.

Ed Chan, Verizon’s SVP of Technology Strategy and Planning for Corporate Networking and Technology, commented: ‘5G will change the way we work, interact, learn and play. Through our work with Ericsson, we are creating a clear roadmap and building a robust ecosystem that will enable us to maximise the potential of 5G.’
