Peruvian telecoms group Optical Networks has launched residential fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services under the ‘Win’ brand. The new ISP offers broadband with download speeds of either 30Mbps or 100Mbps for PEN79 (USD24) and PEN99, respectively, within the Lima and Callao areas. In an interview with El Comercio, Win General Manager Jose Luis Olivera said that the company is planning to invest USD3 million within its first year of operation, during which time it expects to sign up 50,000 subscribers. Explaining the company’s strategy, the official noted: ‘Our focus is quality, we want to deliver a service that speaks for us, we do not seek to massify the service quickly and on the way show deficiencies. Users deserve a good service’. Mr Olivera added that, prior to launch, Win conducted a pilot launch covering 2,000 homes to analyse market demand, and signed up 300 subscribers during the test phase.
