Verizon launching '5G' fixed-wireless residential broadband in 2H18

30 Nov 2017

Verizon Communications has announced that it will launch fixed-wireless ‘5G’ residential broadband services in between three and five US markets in 2018. Verizon’s first commercial 5G launch is planned to be in Sacramento, California, in the second half of 2018, and will be supported by millimetre wave (mmWave) spectrum. To date, the telco has successfully trialled 5G residential applications in eleven markets in 2017.

Hans Vestberg, Verizon’s CTO and president of Global Networks, commented: ‘This is a landmark announcement for customers and investors who have been waiting for the 5G future to become a reality. We appreciate our strong ecosystem partners for their passion and technological support in helping us drive forward with 5G industry standards, for both fixed and mobile applications.’
