The Republic of Benin’s Minister of the Interior and Public Security, Sacca Lafia, has confirmed the expulsion of Stephen Blewett, the director general of South African-backed mobile operator MTN Benin, from the country, Agence Ecofin reports. Mr Blewett has until 24 November to leave Benin, having been accused of ‘activities detrimental to security and public order’. A statement from MTN Benin called the charges ‘baseless’. The cellco is currently the subject of a sanction procedure by Benin’s Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Posts (ARCEP), demanding payment of a disputed overdue spectrum fee bill totalling XOF134.4 billion (USD242 million).
