Iraq’s Ministry of Communications (MoC) has announced that it has completed a project for the installation of 150,000 fibre-optic access lines within the Mansour, Karkh, Kadhimiya, Bayaa and Rusafa areas of Baghdad. The deployment was 100% funded by a loan from Japan and was completed on schedule, despite difficult circumstances, a statement from the MoC noted. Whilst the physical infrastructure is now in place, there will be a delay before it becomes commercially available to residents, however, the release stated. Certain regulatory procedures must be completed first, including the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the MoC and the State Company for Internet Services (SCIS) on the marketing of the service.
