13 Nov 2017

The Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Instituto Dominicano de las Telecomunicaciones, Indotel) has confirmed plans to re-auction a 30MHz block of 1700MHz/2100MHz Advanced Wireless Services (AWS) spectrum that went unsold in 2014. The watchdog rubber-stamped the move with Resolution No. 70-17, and notes that the tender specifications will be published on its website on 15 November.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, America Movil (AM)-backed Claro was awarded Block C (2×5MHz in the 1735MHz-1740MHz/2135MHz-2140MHz band) and Block D (2×15MHz in the 1740MHz-1755MHz/2140MHz-2155MHz band) in the April 2014 auction. Orange scooped spectrum in the 900MHz band during the same auction process, but all other spectrum went unsold.
