New Zealand telco Spark has acquired the local business services provider Digital Island. The new unit will continue to operate under its own name, becoming part of Spark’s Ventures and Wholesale division. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
Separately, Spark has also been linked as a potential buyer for the New Zealand internet businesses of the Australian ISP Vocus. Vocus has put its New Zealand operations – including Orcon, Slingshot and CallPlus – up for sale, and local website Stuff reports that 16 companies have already expressed an interest in the assets, with Spark and its main rival Vodafone named as likely bidders. A number of private equity firms have also been linked with the sale.
