Mobile Telecommunications (MTC), Namibia’s largest cellco by subscribers, has announced that it will invest NAD1 billion (USD70.5 million) in a network upgrade plan scheduled to end in 2019. The company also announced that five new sites in the Oshana region had recently been upgraded from 3G to 4G LTE technology. The upgrades in Oshana follow those made in the Khomas region, where eight new 4G sites were put in place at the end of October.
Chief Human Capital and Corporate Affairs at MTC, Tim Ekandjo said: ‘These exercises are a necessity due to the fast-growing network traffic capacity in many parts of the country. We do not plan to stop until total population network coverage is a reality. These upgrades are underscored and rest exactly at the core of our two-year projection.’
