Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has approved a proposed purchase by Mobile Telesystems (MTS) of the Strela Telecom group, which includes twelve regional companies offering cable TV and broadband internet, reports TDaily, although noting that there is competing takeover interest for the group from MTS’ larger rival in the fixed broadband market ER-Telecom (Dom.ru), which has already received FAS permission for acquisition bids for eight of the twelve companies.

Strela group companies include: Avikom, Aipi Media-Irkutsk, Telesystema Astra, BIKS+, Variant-TV, Urban Internet Networks, Strela Telecom, TV-7, Tomtel, Tomsk Telecommunications Company, Tomsvazinvest and Telenet Usolye-Sibirskoye. The group has around 200,000 broadband subscribers, the report adds.
