UPC Polish merger hits stumbling block

23 Oct 2017

The Polish Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) has raised competition concerns over the proposed takeover of cable TV and broadband operator Multimedia Polska by larger rival UPC Poland. In a statement the UOKiK concludes that the merger would have a strong impact on competition in both the internet and pay-TV markets in 15 cities. As such, Liberty Global subsidiary UPC may be forced to sell off some of Multimedia’s assets in order to gain regulatory clearance for the deal.
