Telecom Italia (TIM) has agreed a joint venture (JV) with French pay-TV firm Canal+, which is a unit of TIM’s largest shareholder, Vivendi. TIM Chief Executive Amos Genish said in a statement: ‘The joint venture with Canal+ will … allow us to seize new opportunities for growth in a market undergoing continuous evolution through a commercial offer of fibre connectivity combined with premium video content.’ The JV will be 60%-owned by TIM and 40% by Canal+. Reuters cites an unnamed source as saying that Italian pay-TV provider Mediaset – in which Vivendi also holds a stake – could be invited to join the JV at a future date.
