China Mobile, the largest of China’s three telcos by subscribers, has booked a 4.9% increase in operating revenue for the nine months ended 30 September 2017, fuelled by strong subscriber growth – particularly in the 4G segment – and a marginal dip in ARPUs. Operating revenue for the period was CNY569.5 billion (USD86 billion), of which CNY515.3 billion was attributed to telecom services (up 7.1% year-on-year) and CNY54.2 billion to sales of products (-11.8%y-o-y). EBITDA was CNY211.3 billion, up 5.5% from CNY200.4 from 9M 2016, whilst net profit was up 4.7% y-o-y to CNY92.1 billion.
The operator counted a total of 878 million wireless subscribers at 30 September 2017, up from 867 million three months earlier, of which 622 million were 4G customers (594 million at end-June 2017). In the fixed segment, meanwhile, China Mobile reported a subscriber base of 103.4 million, up from 93.04 million in June 2017.
