Finland-based Elisa has published its financial results for the quarter ended 30 September 2017, posting an 8.3% year-on-year increase in revenue to EUR454 million (USD534 million). EBITDA in the period under review totalled EUR165 million, up from EUR155 million in 3Q16, with operating profit standing at EUR109 million, compared to EUR98 million previously. Profit before tax, meanwhile, reached EUR104 million, representing an annualised increase of 11.2%.

In operational terms, as at 30 September 2017 Elisa reported a total mobile subscriber base of 4.71 million, down marginally from 4.73 million a year earlier. Of the total, the lion’s share – 4.03 million – were attributed to the company’s domestic operations, with the remainder, 666,000, signed up to its Estonian subsidiary. Finnish fixed broadband accesses totalled 594,000 at the same date, roughly unchanged y-o-y, while the number of fixed voice lines in service fell by a net 31,000 to 144,000. Estonian fixed voice subscribers were down marginally, however, at 35,000 (from 37,000) while fixed broadband accesses rose from 89,000 to 93,000.

Commenting on the company’s performance, Elisa’s chief executive officer Veli-Matti Mattila said: ‘Revenue and earnings grew again in the third quarter of the year. The earnings growth was due to an increase in mobile revenue, an improvement in the productivity of Elisa’s operations, and recent acquisitions. The continuous improvement of quality and operations strengthened Elisa’s competitiveness.’
