16 Oct 2017

Vodafone Group has decided to abandon its M-Pesa mobile money service in Romania on 1 December, reports the Ziarul Financiar. Vodafone selected its Romanian operation for the European debut of its mobile money transfer and bill payment service in March 2014, but just over three years on the scheme will be scrapped, with Vodafone Romania officials stating: ‘The decision to stop the M-Pesa payment service has been made following the analysis of the evolution of this service and taking into account the current market context.’ Rival cellco Orange Romania is reportedly the current leader in the country’s mobile money services market.
