Telekom begins fibre-optic rollout in commercial areas

Telekom Deutschland, the domestic fixed and mobile unit of German telecoms group Deutsche Telekom (DT), is rolling out fibre-optic broadband access infrastructure in 20 commercial areas in 14 cities and municipalities. The expansion will see around 5,000 companies in Bremen, Dresden, Dusseldorf, Grafschaft, Ismaning, Oyten, Landsberg, Ludinghausen, Neuhausen, Neunkirchen, Nuremberg, Rodermark, Wittlich and Wurzburg able to access maximum download speeds of 1Gbps from next year. Looking ahead, Telekom is aiming to provide the high speed service to 100 commercial areas across the country by the end of 2018.
