New York-based Mediacom has deployed DOCSIS 3.1-enabled 1Gbps services to 85% of its 22-state footprint Fierce Cable reports, with customers in Michigan, Delaware and Maryland the latest recipients of the cableco’s ‘Gigasphere’ platform. With the latest rollout, Mediacom notes that it has rolled out Gigasphere services to 1,250 communities across the US; the DOCSIS 3.1 deployment is scheduled to cover the operator’s entire footprint by the end of 2017.

In other US cable news, Wide Open West (WOW!) and Nokia have unveiled what they claim is ‘the industry’s first commercial virtualised Distributed Access Architecture (vDAA) deployment’. The Finnish vendor’s Unified Cable Access solution is expected to significantly increase the capacity of WOW!’s existing HFC network, helping the cableco to meet bandwidth demands and adapt to the new ways in which its subscribers consume multimedia content.
