Etisalat Misr calls on Ericsson for network evolution project

6 Oct 2017

Egyptian mobile network operator (MNO) Etisalat Misr has signed a four-year contract with Ericsson for the modernisation and expansion of its core network and business support systems. A press release says the upgrades will help ‘capitalise on the growth in 4G and pave the way for 5G and Internet of Things’, allowing for a shorter time to market, commercial innovation, and improved user experience, while a positive impact on capital and operational expenditure is also anticipated. It was noted that the work undertaken by Ericsson will accelerate the introduction of IMS VoLTE, Voice-over-WiFi (VoWiFi), Service Aware Policy Control and Unified Communications on the Egyptian cellco’s networks.

Commenting on the development, Etisalat Misr’s chief executive Hazem Metwally said: ‘We are pleased to be working with Ericsson again on a new project that addresses the evolving requirements of our organisation. It will double the capacity of our business support systems, which will allow us to provide more innovation to our customers, resulting in more traffic passing through our network.’
