19 Sep 2017

German telecoms company Deutsche Telekom (DT), which provides fixed and mobile services in its domestic market under the brand name Telekom Deutschland, has launched a Massive MIMO field trial with Chinese equipment vendor Huawei. Combining TD-LTE Massive MIMO and 256QAM, the trial in Berlin involved 20MHz of bandwidth in the 3.5GHz band to reach speeds of up to 750Mbps. Fully integrated commercial smartphones from Sony were used to support the trial.

‘This joint technical innovation is another big milestone in terms of long-term strategic cooperation between both parties, Huawei is quite happy to cooperate with Deutsche Telekom to unleash its great potential in 4G as well as 5G,’ commented Wang Yang, Vice President of Huawei’s TDD product line, adding: ‘Massive MIMO is an ideal companion for 3.5GHz band in terms of both capacity and coverage. We believe this joint innovation will bring technology advance as well as business success to Deutsche Telekom.’
