UTS subsidiary Fiberco to connect 55,000 homes, 2,000 businesses in Curacao

7 Sep 2017

Curacao-based United Telecommunication Services (UTS) has informed TeleGeography that it seeks to deploy a fibre-optic network that will connect around 55,000 homes and 2,000 businesses on the Caribbean island territory. The telco notes that it is in the process of selecting a contractor to design, install, build, deliver and maintain the new network.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, UTS currently delivers maximum downlink transmission speeds of up to 50Mbps via a VDSL platform deployed in 2013. The telco competes in the local broadband market with the likes of Cable & Wireless Communications (CWC)-backed Flow (now part of Liberty Global), and fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) operator TRES Networks, which was taken over by Digicel Group last year.
