Swiss cableco UPC Switzerland has extended its partnership with utility firm EBL (Genossenschaft Elektra Baselland) and from mid-September will offer service’s over the latter’s network in the Emmental and Lucerne regions. Through the agreement, UPC will expand its reach to an additional 20,000 households. The move will also see UPC take over as telecom service provider on the EBL network from Quickline, which currently serves around 7,500 digital TV, internet and telephony subscribers over the system. Commenting on the decision, EBL executive Adrian Koessler was quoted as saying: ‘We have already been working together successfully with UPC as a provider for communication and entertainment in our cable networks in the Basel region and in French-speaking Switzerland for many years. Now we are following suit with our cable network in the Emmental/Luzerner Landschaft region in order to further standardise the product range and optimise customer service.’

Elsewhere, Swiss wireless provider Salt extended its ‘4G+’ LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network to 45% of the population by the end of August 2017, providing theoretical peak download speeds of up to 300Mbps.
