Verizon, Ericsson, Qualcomm achieve 953Mbps speeds in Florida LTE trial

4 Aug 2017

Verizon Wireless, Ericsson, and Qualcomm Technologies, have announced that they have achieved downlink transmission speeds of 953Mbps in a joint commercial LTE network deployment in Boca Raton, Florida. While lab tests have shown comparable speeds in recent months, the participants note that this is the fastest announced speed achieved in a real-world, dynamic network environment leveraging Licensed Assisted Access (LAA) technology. The trial used quad-band carrier aggregation (4C), including Verizon’s spectrum holdings alongside unlicensed spectrum, 4×4 multiple-input, multiple-output (4×4 MIMO) and 256 QAM functionality. Verizon notes that the demonstration used commercially available network components, including a cell site, hardware, software, and backhaul.
