Viettel’s Telemor unit launches 4G in Timor-Leste

2 Aug 2017

Viettel Timor-Leste, which operates under the brand name Telemor, has launched commercial LTE services, making it the Vietnamese Group’s seventh operation with a live 4G network after Cambodia, Laos, Burundi, Peru, Haiti and Vietnam. The new high speed service is currently available in all 13 of Timor-Leste’s districts, providing territorial coverage of 70%. Telemor claims that maximum download speeds of 60Mbps are offered over the 4G network, with LTE data plans priced at USD1 for a data allowance of 400MB (valid for one day), USD3 for 800MB (weekly), USD20 for 5GB (weekly) and USD50 for 13GB of data (monthly).

In July 2012 Vietnam’s Viettel Group was awarded a 15-year fixed and mobile licence, permitting the use of spectrum in the 850MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz and 2100MHz bands, and the company went on to launch 2G and 3G mobile services in April 2013 under the brand name Telemor.
