PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom) booked net profits of IDR12.1 trillion (USD913.6 million) in January-June 2017, up 21.9% from IDR9.84 trillion in the corresponding period a year earlier, as revenues increased by 13.4% to IDR64.02 trillion from IDR56.45 trillion. The Indonesian state-controlled operator also recorded earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) of IDR33.23 trillion, representing year-on-year growth of 15.4%. A statement from Telkom called its performance ‘very satisfying’ given the increasingly competitive environment, highlighting higher revenue in its Data, Internet & IT Services segment, which for the first time exceeded its Cellular Voice & SMS unit revenue.
Data, Internet & IT Services revenue in 1H17 totalled IDR27.12 trillion, or 42.4% of total turnover, compared to IDR26.02 trillion for Cellular Voice & SMS. The increase in revenues from Data, Internet & IT Services was in line with rising mobile internet usage and mobile data traffic the latter of which spiked 118.7% in the period under review. The mobile subscriber base reached 178 million (+ 13.1%) at 30 June 2017, while Telkomsel Flash mobile broadband subscribers grew 63.9% to 81.72 million users, and fixed broadband subscribers increased by 4.7% to 4.52 million. Likewise, IndiHome fixed broadband service customers recorded a growth of 34.2% to more than two million subscribers. IndiHome ARPU was recorded at IDR344,000 for the period under review. Fixed telephony (POTS) connections totalled 10.733 million, up 1.0% from 10.628 million in 2016.
