Entel reaches 5m subscriber milestone; plots USD35m investment for 2017

State-backed Bolivian telco Entel has announced that its consolidated subscriber base (mobile, broadband, fixed line, pay-TV) has passed the five million mark. Further, general manager Oscar Coca Antezana told El Mundo that the state-backed telco generated net profits of more than BOB1 billion (USD141.2 million) in 2016, compared to BOB965 million in 2015. Going forward, Entel seeks to invest BOB250 million in its networks in 2017, down from BOB350 million in 2016.

TeleGeography notes that Entel’s mobile network currently comprises 5,229 base transceiver stations (BTS), while its 4G LTE network spans 3,905 BTS across 339 municipalities, giving it broadly nationwide coverage.
