Armenian telecommunication company ArmenTel (trading as Beeline) has announced ambitious plans to modernise its wired networks in the capital Yerevan and the regions. In what is being hailed as an ‘unprecedented modernisation programme, the company (backed by VEON, formerly VimpelCom) says the wide-scale project will see investment of tens of millions of US dollars over the next two years, including the upgrade of existing infrastructure, to decommission outdated analogue equipment, and the deployment of new optical fibre networks. In the coming months Beeline will issue invites to Armenian partners to carry out the installation and upgrade works, it said, with ArmenTel CEO Andrey Pyatakhin noting: ‘We will be very glad to work with Armenian partners to make life and communication in Armenia even better and more modern.’
