MPT expands LTE+ coverage to 16 cities

10 Jul 2017

State-backed mobile provider Myanmar Post and Telecommunications (MPT) has extended its LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) to 16 cities across ten states, with plans to expand coverage to more than 30 cities by the end of September this year. MPT’s platform – which it dubs ‘LTE+’ – uses 4×4 multiple-input, multiple-output (4×4 MIMO) technology to provide download speeds of up to 150Mbps. Supporting the expansion programme, MPT has also launched a new introductory bonus, granting new user 1GB of free data when they connect to the 4G network for the first time. As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, MPT commercially launched its LTE network in late May 2017 and introduced LTE-A the following month.
