DOCOMO selects Ericsson’s UDN solution

5 Jul 2017

NTT DOCOMO of Japan has selected Ericsson to supply it with its Unified Delivery Network (UDN) global content delivery network solution – the Swedish vendor’s first such deployment in the country. In the first phase, DOCOMO will use the UDN to provide content distribution services, while in the longer term it intends to roll out a range of value added services (VAS) including non-chargeable data for selected content. The UDN, which allows content providers across the globe to fully utilise the last mile reach network operators can offer, is designed ‘to aggregate network capabilities to allow services to be optimised and monetised in new ways, while offering operators the ability to efficiently scale the delivery of OTT services and high-quality video content’.

Ericsson’s head of UDN service provider partnerships Cillilan Maher said its UDN ecosystem now encompasses 55 content providers and 40 operators worldwide.
