26 Jun 2017

Polish telco Orange Polska has secured EU funding worth PLN616 million (USD164 million) to help pay for new fibre-optic networks under the government-backed Operational Programme Digital Poland (Programu Operacyjnego Polska Cyfrowa, POPC). The fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) rollout will cover more than 264,000 premises in 423 unserved or underserved municipalities. The project, which is due to be completed in 2020, will also connect around 2,900 schools and colleges. Alongside the EU funding, Orange says it will contribute PLN220 million from its own resources. The Polish government recently announced plans to provide PLN3 billion to help pay for 100Mbps broadband connections for 1.28 million households and more than 10,000 schools under the POPC project.
