Du hits 700Mbps using single carrier in Massive MIMO trial

23 Jun 2017

United Arab Emirates (UAE) fixed and mobile operator Du says it has achieved download speeds of more than 700Mbps in tests of Massive MIMO (multiple-input, multiple-output) technology on its commercial network. The trial used a single carrier channel of 20MHz, while Du also said that trials using three 20MHz carrier channels achieved download rates of more than 2.1Gbps. Saleem Al Blooshi, executive VP for infrastructure and technology at Du, commented: ‘As we look to the future, our consumers’ expectations will only increase, as the amount of information exchanged proliferates – and 5G will offer the instant data transfer. We are preparing for this future today by trialling new ways to get the most from our available spectrum and increasing capacity.’
