Regional Brazilian telecoms operator Sumicity has enlisted local vendor Padtec to expand its DWDM optical network capacity in the interior of the state of Rio de Janeiro. The contract covers a 180km fibre network, with terminations in the capital and the municipality of Guapimirim. According to Sumicity, the expansion represents the first 100Gbps-capable network in the interior of Rio de Janeiro.
Founded in 2004, Sumicity offers broadband, voice and pay-TV services over its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) infrastructure in 70 municipalities across Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais. The telco expects to launch commercial services in Espirito Santo later this year.
