Bouygues selects Ciena for backbone network overhaul

20 Jun 2017

French telecoms provider Bouygues Telecom has selected Ciena’s 6500 Packet-Optical Platform to help improve the efficiency, scalability and reliability of its current network backhauling and aggregation infrastructure, while also supporting the creation of its so-called ‘SuperCore’ network. The rollout will increase capacity to up to 400G to support increasing capacity demands and new high-bandwidth services, and will allow Bouygues Telecom to lay the foundations for a future 5G rollout. Jean Paul Arzel, Director of Networks at Bouygues, said: ‘Modernising our backhauling and aggregation networks in addition to our SuperCore network is a major evolution of our infrastructure, allowing us to better service our customers and manage bandwidth demands as users become even more data-centric in their device use. Ciena’s 6500 platform is an essential part of both our physical network and our service delivery strategy.’
