UPC Switzerland has announced that it has decided to ‘significantly develop its partner model’ by using third-party networks to reach up to 200,000 additional homes outside its own footprint by the end of 2018. The first city to be addressed as part of this project will be Lausanne, where UPC will start offering its complete product portfolio (broadband, pay-TV, VoIP) to around 90,000 homes from August this year. Future locations have yet to be confirmed, however. CEO Eric Tveter commented: ‘I am delighted that we can now offer Switzerland’s fifth largest city, Lausanne, access to the world of UPC.’
Besides the increased use of third-party networks, UPC will also pick up pace with the expansion of its own fibre-optic cable network. As part of the ‘Autostrada’ investment programme, 50,000 additional homes were connected in Switzerland and Austria in 2016 alone.
