IS inks a deal with Rain for TD-LTE-A wholesale access

South African-based business/wholesale provider Internet Solutions (IS) – which is owned by Dimension Data – has reached an agreement with Rain (formerly Wireless Business Solutions, or WBS) to offer wholesale access over the latter’s 4G time division duplex LTE-Advanced (TD-LTE-A) network. IS said in a statement on its website: ‘Targeting local ISPs whose customers will benefit from fibre-like mobile connectivity, Internet Solutions and Rain anticipate that offering competitively priced access to LTE-A will present local ISPs with new growth opportunities.’ As reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate earlier this week, Rain revealed that it had deployed 750 LTE-A sites to date, and is on track to meet its target of 2,000 4G sites by the end of the year (ultimately aiming to have 10,000 sites in operation). The fixed-wireless service will be branded ‘Rain-to-the-Home (RttH)’ and will be offered as a fibre or xDSL alternative.
