South African technology firm Multisource/Wireless Business Solutions (WBS) – the parent company of ISP iBurst – has been rebranded as Rain, TechCentral reports. The company, which is aiming to commercially introduce a nationwide time division duplex LTE-Advanced (TD-LTE-A) network – using carrier aggregation (CA) in the 1800MHz and 2600MHz bands – in the next few months, also revealed that it had deployed 750 LTE-A sites to date, and is on track to meet its target of 2,000 4G sites by the end of the year. CEO Duncan Simpson-Craib said: ‘Very shortly we will be announcing details of a fixed wireless broadband service branded “Rain-to-the-Home (RttH)”, as a fibre or xDSL alternative. It will be delivered on what we call “fibre-from-the-sky” using our LTE-A network. In future, we will be launching a full mobile data service.’
