Telekom Austria Group’s Belarusian subsidiary Mobile Digital Communications (MDC), which trades as velcom, has released an update on its 3G network rollout programme, confirming that it now covers 95.2% of the Republic with its signal, up from 94.1% previously. The cellco says its recent efforts have been bolstered by the use of UMTS-900, adding no fewer than 649 base stations in the lower band, with a focus on Minsk (191 new stations) and Grodno (124), as well as increasing the quality of 3G communication and mobile internet sites in Baranovichi, Polotsk, Osipovichi, Bobruisk and Novogrudok. In total, velcom now has approximately 3,500 3G base stations on-air, supporting HD voice in both urban and rural areas.
