Telenet and ZTE ink strategic partnership deal related to 5G and IoT

6 Jun 2017

Belgian multi-service operator Telenet and Chinese global communications provider ZTE have strengthened their ongoing working relationship by signing a Strategic Partnership Agreement on 5G and Internet of Things (IoT). The news comes after the two firms teamed up to achieve ‘record’ pre-5G speeds in an outfield test carried out in December 2016. Telenet CTO Micha Berger said: ‘We already engaged for a couple of months with ZTE now and we are very happy about it. We are convinced this partnership will allow us to offer a top quality mobile network for existing and future needs all over Belgium.’

Previously in August 2016 Telenet selected ZTE to upgrade its national mobile network by using the company’s Uni-RAN technology and replacing Telenet’s 2G base stations and optimising 3G, 4G and 4G+ coverage throughout the country.
