Magyar Telekom building 5G test network

5 Jun 2017

Hungarian fixed and mobile operator Magyar Telekom disclosed on its website that it has begun building a 5G test network in Zalaegerszeg, with the aim of becoming a regional centre of 5G development, testing new network technology as well as smart solutions supported by new network platforms. Promoting this initiative, Telekom highlights that it has started implementing a 5G pilot mobile communication network to be integrated into a ‘motor vehicle test area’ to be established in Zalaegerszeg, whilst it is cooperating in testing self-driving cars as well as smart transport solutions. Other 5G projects in Zalaegerszeg may involve its wholly-owned corporate ICT services division T-Systems Hungary, the operator’s release indicated. Magyar Telekom added that it, alongside T-Systems, recently signed a joint cooperation agreement at the Zalaegerszeg MOBIL 2017 Vehicle Industry & Logistics event with representatives from the city authorities and Autoipari Probapalya Zala (Automotive Test Course).
