Rostelecom plots RUB2bn swoop for B2B player Avantel

State-backed Russian operator Rostelecom is set to stage takeover negotiations with corporate telco Avantel, which holds licences to operate across the Russian Federation, and boasts a presence in Moscow, St Petersburg, Samara, Nizhnevartovsk, Omsk, Tomsk, Barnaul and Kemerovo. According to Vedomosti, the company was founded in Novosibirsk in 2002, by Daniel Slobodskoy, Oleg Maslov and Valentin Merzlikin, but is now owned by Cypriot company Gosiri Assets. The report values Avantel at RUB2 billion (USD35.3 million).
