Nkom orders Telenor Norge to reduce wholesale prices for cellular network

31 May 2017

Norway’s National Communications Authority (Nasjonal kommunikasjonsmyndighet, Nkom) has directed Telenor Norge to reduce its wholesale prices for alternative operators that rent access to its mobile infrastructure. Publishing a draft decision regarding the conditions of competition in the country’s wireless sector, the regulator noted that Telenor is obliged to meet all reasonable requests for access to its mobile network on terms which allow smaller companies to make a profit, as per a regulatory ruling from July 2016.

Nkom recently conducted its latest analysis to ascertain whether alternative providers are currently facing a margin squeeze, following which it confirmed that, at current pricing levels, this is indeed the case. As such, it has requested Telenor reduce its charges and has called on interested parties to submit their comments regarding the matter by 12 June 2017.
