Telenor and Telia secure 900MHz spectrum, Nkom confirms

30 May 2017

Norway’s National Communications Authority (Nasjonal kommunikasjonsmyndighet, Nkom) has named Telia Norge and Telenor Norge as the two winners of the 900MHz spectrum auction that got underway last week. Both mobile network operators (MNOs) successfully bid for two new blocks of spectrum apiece, with Telenor agreeing to pay the most, having offered NOK396 million (USD47 million) for a total of 2×10MHz in the band in question. For its part, Telia will have to find marginally less, after agreeing to pay NOK394 million in a sale process which saw bidding conducted over 29 rounds.

The Nkom has confirmed that the two operators will now negotiate the final frequency allocations, with discussions regarding the actual placement of blocks in the band expected to last for up to four weeks.
