Dialog Axiata launches TD-LTE home broadband in Colombo

25 May 2017

Sri Lankan telco Dialog Axiata has announced the launch of its commercial 4.5G TD-LTE network in Colombo, bringing ultra-high internet access to users via its ‘Home Broadband’ branded services. Initially available to households in selected zones in the city, Dialog Axiata says that the rollout of what it claims is South Asia’s first commercial TD-LTE network, will soon be expanded to the rest of the country as part of the cellco’s quest to deliver Sri Lanka’s fastest 4G network.

Commenting on the launch, Group Chief Executive of Dialog Axiata, Supun Weerasinghe, said: ‘The deployment of commercial 4.5G broadband services serves as a springboard for the rapid accession towards 5G services, and demonstrates Dialog’s readiness to deliver the most advanced suite of connectivity services to consumers. We are privileged to empower and enrich the lives of millions leading the technology transformation both here and in the region and this rollout will bring us even closer to the connected future we envisage for all Sri Lankans’. The launch, which follows successful air interface trials in June 2016, will be used to augment Dialog Axiata’s commercial mobile LTE network and in-deployment LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) mobile upgrades.
