MTS Q1 revenue falls 1.1%, EBIT creeps up

Russian telecoms group Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) – operating in Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Turkmenistan and Belarus – has posted a 1.1% year-on-year drop in consolidated revenues to RUB104.7 billion (USD1.9 billion) in Q1 2017, whilst operating profit (EBIT) inched up by 0.4% to RUB21.7 billion. Net income for the three months ended 31 March dropped by 14.0% y-o-y to RUB12.5 billion. MTS spent 39.5% less in CAPEX in 1Q17 (RUB11.1 billion) compared to the same period of 2016, whilst total group mobile subscribers stood at 108.8 million at end-March, up by 1.7% y-o-y but down 1.0% quarter-on-quarter.
