Dialog Axiata completes successful Massive MIMO trial

Sri Lanka’s largest telecom services provider by subscribers, Dialog Axiata, has carried out South Asia’s first successful trial of new generation, Massive MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) technology, as the cellco begins laying the groundwork for the introduction of 5G technology. With Massive MIMO offering improved spectrum efficiency and a theoretical six-fold boost in capacity from the same spectrum resource, it is considered a compelling solution in terms of delivering the promised benefits of 5G services. Local newspaper The Daily Mirror notes that Dialog Axiata recently concluded a trial MIMO deployment that delivered speeds up to 716Mbps over a single 20MHz LTE TDD carrier.
