24 May 2017

Costa Rican cableco Cooperativa de Electrificacion Rural Los Santos (Coopesantos) is set to begin offering fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services to residential subscribers in areas of San Pablo, San Marcos and Santa Maria by the end of June. El Financiero cites the cooperative’s director of infocommunications, Johnny Quesada as saying that the company has not yet established a tariff for the service, but prices will be ‘very competitive compared to what other operators with fibre optic services offer in the market’. The official added that the network will pass around 1,000 homes at launch, but that figure is due to rise to approximately 4,000 by the end of June 2018 with the company earmarking investment of USD1 million to roll out infrastructure to the following areas: Frailes, La Fila del Rosario, San Gabriel, Vuelta del Jorco, Corralillo, San Ignacio, Palmichal, Tabarcia and Guayabo.
