Romania’s largest cellco by subscribers, Orange Romania has announced that it has reached 100% 4G LTE coverage in all towns and cities across the country. This means that Orange’s network now covers more than 7,585 localities throughout Romania as the leading MNO continues to grow and strengthen its dominant position in the country’s mobile market. Orange has seen its 4G LTE subscriber base increase rapidly with the company recording 2.4 million customers at end-March 2017, double the total recorded at the end of Q1 2016, supported by rising sales of smartphones and smart devices, as well as the rapid expansion of 4G service coverage. The company added in a separate press release that its 4G network now reaches 86% of the Romanian population with customers able to access download speeds of up to 375Mbps.
According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Orange Romania launched its 4G LTE network in December 2012, before adding an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network in September 2014. It currently leads the way in Romania’s mobile market, with Vodafone Romania not far behind Orange as the country’s second-largest cellco.
