Lebanon preparing ‘historic’ fibre tender

18 May 2017

Lebanon is preparing to launch a major fibre-optic network rollout tender next month, local newspaper the Daily Star reports, citing Minster of Telecommunications Jamal Jarrah who called the project ‘the biggest and most important tender in Lebanon’s history’. The tender will cover deployment of fibre-optics/street cabinet equipment for expanding high speed internet to residential as well as business users. Jarrah confirmed that the Cabinet approved the plan for the ‘seventh phase’ of the national fibre-optic network strategy on 10 May, allowing the necessary funds to be assigned. He added that his ministry has also proposed to the Cabinet measures to reduce internet access prices by 20%-50% to enable more citizens to benefit from high speed broadband.
