Swedish mobile operators Tele2 and Telenor have revealed that their common 2G/4G network – operated via their joint venture Net4Mobility – now covers 90% of the Swedish territory and 99.9% of the population. Under the expansion programme, the duo increased the number of base transceiver stations (BTS) in the northern part of the country by 140%, while southern Sweden benefited from a 40% increase in the number of BTS. Further, the two operators extended their dual carrier LTE to rural areas, thus doubling the capacity in underserved regions. Going forward, the two operators are planning to deepen their cooperation, following a December 2016 agreement to construct a common nationwide network utilising 5G technology.
