Japan’s largest mobile network operator (MNO) by subscribers, NTT DOCOMO, has reported its consolidated financial results for its fiscal year ending 31 March 2017. The carrier, a subsidiary of NTT Corp, booked operating revenue of almost JPY54.585 trillion, compared to JPY4.527 trillion in the previous year, but below its own operating revenue forecast of JPY4.610 trillion; for fiscal 2017 DOCOMO is forecasting operating revenue of JPY4.750 trillion, it said. EBITDA stood at JPY1.452 trillion in the twelve months under review, down from JPY1.455 trillion, although operating income climbed sharply to JPY944.7 billion from JPY783.0 billion in FY 2015/16. Full-year CAPEX of JPY597.1 billion was broadly unchanged from JPY595.2 billion in the previous year.
Operationally speaking, at end-March 2017 NTT DOCOMO had a total of 74.880 million cellular subscribers, up 5.3% from 70.964 million a year before, of which 44.544 million were 4G (branded Xi), up from 38.7679 million at end-March 2016, and 30.336 million were 3G (FOMA), down a net 1.949 million year-on-year. Monthly blended ARPU increased by 6.2% y-o-y to JPY4,430 and minutes of use (MOU) edged up to 137 minutes from 133 previously.
